Oneida Baptist Institute Mission Trip

Here are some facts about OBI:

  • OBI is a fully accredited Christian boarding school for young people in grades 6-12.

  • OBI was founded in 1899 by James Anderson Burns to educate children of families in eastern Kentucky.
     
  • The Christian staff teach respect for authority, high moral standards, and responsible behavior.

  • Built on a Biblical foundation, OBI prepares young people for life by equipping them in mind, body, and spirit.
     
  • OBI is not a publicly funded school and depends on churches and individual groups for the majority of their funding.
     
  • Due to their funding, they depend heavily on volunteer workers for construction, maintainence, cleaning, and farm work.
  • Average enrollment is 350 with a staff of 150.
     
  • Students perform nearly all the cleaning and groundskeeping duties on campus.

  • Students tend livestock and bale hay on the 200 acre school-owned farm.
     
  • Teens are taught to be on time, follow instructions, and to take pride in a job well done.
     
  • The majority of students are not Christians when they enroll.

  • Students attend daily chapel services and church services on  Sunday mornings and evenings.
  • Each year, many boys and girls come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
     
  • There is a summer school for middle and high school students.
