Underwood Baptist Church

OBI is a fully accredited Christian boarding school for young people in grades 6-12.
OBI was founded in 1899 by James Anderson Burns to educate children of families in eastern Kentucky.
The Christian staff teach respect for authority, high moral standards, and responsible behavior.
Built on a Biblical foundation, OBI prepares young people for life by equipping them in mind, body, and spirit.
OBI is not a publicly funded school and depends on churches and individual groups for the majority of their funding.
Due to their funding, they depend heavily on volunteer workers for construction, maintainence, cleaning, and farm work.
Average enrollment is 350 with a staff of 150.
Students perform nearly all the cleaning and groundskeeping duties on campus.
Students tend livestock and bale hay on the 200 acre school-owned farm.
Teens are taught to be on time, follow instructions, and to take pride in a job well done.
The majority of students are not Christians when they enroll.
Students attend daily chapel services and church services on Sunday mornings and evenings.
Each year, many boys and girls come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
There is a summer school for middle and high school students.
